Diving in Recife

Recife is the main city of the state of Pernambuco, taking its name for its many reefs, also known in Portuguese as recifes, that surround its shoreline. Rivers, bridges, beaches, and islets make up this awe-inspiring region. Some people call Recife “the Venice of Brazil” because of all the canals that cross the region. This is an excellent place for adventurer divers. The main underwater attractions in this area are the more than 30 shipwrecks you can find, from historic ships from the XIX century to artificial ones. You will find high visibility and warm waters all year round. From September until May, Recife has the best sailing conditions. Recife has delicious local food and great restaurants, as well as a wide variety of hotel and hostels. The neighbor town of Olinda is a historic UNESCO World Heritage Site; this beautiful town is filled with colonial houses, and baroque churches from the Portuguese colonizers, as well as beautiful gardens. Both the cities of Recife and Olinda are world-famous for its carnival; make sure you visit around February to join the celebrations. You can also head to Boa Viagem.
