Diving in Reservado Arvoredo

The Arvoredo Archipelago is located south of Brazil , nearby the City of Florianópolis and right off the coast of the Santa Catarina state. This archipelago has been a protected area for more than 20 years, and covers over 17,000 hectares (42,000 acres). The Arvoredo Marine Reserve has been recently open for visitors after being closed for several years. This archipelago has three main islands: Arvoredo, Galés Island, and Deserta Island, as well as and a rocky outcrop called São Pedro. Arvoredo is the largest of the three islands; it is also the main dive site for all the south of Brazil and even one of the most visited dive sites for Argentinians divers. The Arvoredo island has steep coastlines and rocky shores. The average visibility goes from 5 to 15 meters (16 to 49 feet) and water temperatures go from 18 to 24º C (64 to 75º F). Arvoredo can be reached from the beaches of Bombas and Bombinhas or from the north beaches of Florianópolis, such as Canasvieiras. The archipelago is optimal for beginner and more experienced divers with depths that go from 5 to 25 metres (16 to 82 feet), and no more than 30 metres deep (98 ft).
