Diving in Taveuni

The third-largest island in Fiji, after Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, is Taveuni, also known as the “Garden Island” for its abundance of lush plant life. This is the ideal place to do some ecotourism as it has places filled with high biodiversity and abundant wildlife. You will find all the wonders of a tropical vacation on this tiny island. Taveuni is a beautiful paradise of local farms, tropical rainforests, excellent jungle treks, spectacular waterfalls, world-class surfing, and top-notch diving. The Somosomo Strait is one of the world’s most sought-after dive destinations, and it separates the island from its more massive neighboring island, Vanua Levu, to the north. Head to Rainbow Reef, a fantastic dive site where can admire some of the most colorful soft corals in the world bloom as they open to feed on the passing nutrients, due to the nutrient-rich waters that pump through the strait. The Great White Wall is another exciting dive area within the strait, where you can watch as large pelagic animals come in to feed, as well as many other species such as barracudas manta rays, and reef sharks. You can arrive at Taveuni by a short flight or by water on a short ferry ride.
