Diving the outer atolls/islands of Belize

The remote “Outer Islands”, also known as Atolls, are some of the best dive sites in Belize. They are a harder region to get to, but completely worth the adventure. The Outer Islands, which are famous for their amazing biodiversity, have 3 main large atolls: Turneffe Atoll, Lighthouse Reef, and Glovers Reef. The easiest way to reach these islands is by water taxi from the city of Belize; however, you can also access them from Ambergris Caye. Once there, you can stay at one of the many dive resorts on any of the 3 islands. Another great way to explore the area is by liveaboard. Diving in the Outer Atolls is perfect for all types of divers. Beginner divers can swim in the shallow, majestic reef, while the more adventurous divers can go to the deeper wrecks with stronger currents on the eastern edge of the atolls, where they can spot spectacular pelagic animals. From May to October you will find more economical prices; however, beware as it is hurricane season and you will experience hot weather, very warm water, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. November to May are the best months to visit this place, as you will find warm weather and less rain.
